For my 7th blog I decided to read about a CU student that was found in the basement of a hospitality building. When he was found, he was injured and had been down there for as long as 2 days. When I read this it said that he tripped on a flight of stairs. I asked myself, why didn't anybody find him in those 2 days? It said that he suffered brain damage during the fall, and that's why he couldn't yell for help.

What does this say about the safety of buildings in Colorado? Especially the stairs; people shouldn't be tripping. Why didn't anybody find him for 2 days? I would think that there would be some kind of janitor, or employee that would go down there for something. I think that CU should do more to stop this from happening again.

For my 5th blog I read about lowering prison terms in sentences for crack. I think that this is really stupid, and they should raise the terms instead of lowering them. Crack kills and affects so many people because it is so addictive. People spend tens of thousands of dollars because they are addicting to crack and must have it, even though it is killing brain cells and destroying them mentally. By letting these crack dealers out of prison earlier, it is likely that they will go back selling this drug and ruining peoples lives. On the article it stated that for about 19,500 dealers, their sentences would be shorted from 10 years and 1 month, to 8 years and 10 months. That is over a year that around 20 thousand of these sick people will be wandering the streets causing more trouble and ruining more lives. Obviously, I think that the crack dealers should not have a shortened sentence, but a longer one.

For my 5th education blog I chose to view Mr. Fisch's "did you know P.E." version. I thought that it was really good that Mr. Fisch brought up these points about staying healthy and getting plenty of exercise. He stated that physical education helps improve a child's mental alertness, physical well-being, academic performance, and readiness to learn. I agree with him completely. I have noticed that when I exercise, the next day I'm not so negative towards school and more involved instead of complaining all the time. Mr. Fisch also stated the physical education also teaches not only children, but adults too, self discipline. The other day I ran 2 miles on our treadmill, not because I had too...but because I wanted too. I think that staying fit is really important, and with all this new technology, mostly children aren't getting all of the exercise that they need.

For my 5th news blog, I chose to read about the California wildfires. So far the fires have destroyed 1,500 homes and damaged hundreds more. Financial analysts and insurance experts are estimating that the damages done by the fires will cost about 1 billion dollars. I think that we as a country need to start doing more to stop these kinds of things from happening. The fires in California as well as around the world are a result of global warming. Forests are drying out because of the heat that it is causing, and therefore are easier to burn. This says a lot about where our country is heading. If we don't do something soon, the world is going to run out of natural resources. Every day more and more forest is destroyed, oil is consumed, ice is melting, air is polluted..... If we want to stay on this planet..we need to find out a new way to slow global warming.

For my fourth education blog, I chose to write about Mr. Fisch being in an article for the Rocky Mountain post. In the article it stated that Mr. Fisch's "shift happens" presentation has been viewed by millions of people around the world. I think that it is really cool to have a teacher that works at Arapahoe become such an influence to not only the people around him, but to millions of people around the globe. This shows that it is possible to make an impact on people through things that are happening today. What a better place for this to happen, then at a school. Through him, students have become more of what is happening outside of their lives. I think that what Mr. Fisch has put together will affect many young teens and involve them in more helping outside of their own lives.

For my fourth blog, I chose to read about a scalper that was busted after attempting to try and sell 60 tickets valued at $100 dollars each, for around $300. I think that it is good that the cops caught this guy, because it will influence more people not to get into that business of taking advantage of people. People need to watch out for these guys that try and scam people into paying $200 more than what the ticket is actually worth. If there are people doing this at almost every single game, then that's saying alot about the security that Colorado enforces.
I think that the stadium should also do more to stop this because there are lots of people being driven away because there are no more seats. The scalpers have bought them all, and trying to sell them for ridiculous prices, which is driving people away. The police need to put stricter laws on this so people don't get encouraged to join this business off scamming people.

For my third education blog I chose to read "Two steps forward" posted by Mr. Fisch. He said that AHS has a new program that allows students to bring in their laptops, iPhone, palms, etc. and access the Internet through AHS's wireless server. I think that this new project will help improve learning by allowing students the opportunity to bring in their own devices instead of AHS providing them and paying a low of money.

Students can now take notes using their own personal computer, instead of wasting paper and erasing, etc.. This new program will benefit students like me, because I sometimes lose my papers in my binder, or forgot to bring a textbook to class. The downside to this program is that a majority of students won't have the money to buy a laptop, or other devise to use at school.

Two Steps Forward . . .

For my third local news blog, I chose to write about five workers that perished inside of a mine because of a pipe malfunction. It seems to me that on the news there has been a lot of accidents occurring in mines all around the country and other parts of the world. I think that this is a serious problem in America because we should not have that happening. The workers that were involved in this accident didn't get air for two and a half hours, after they had called using a radio one hour after the accident occured. The mining companies need to take more responsibility and get that air down to the miners faster.

I know how it feels not being able to breath. When I was younger, I would wake up some mornings not being able to breath because I would have severe croup. I would wake my mom up and she would drive me to the hospital, where I would have to stay about five hours. The workers had it much worse than I did, they would eventually run out of air, but I could breath, but very slowly.

For my second education blog, I read the "what matters" article that Mr. Fisch wrote. He wrote about what's essential for students to learn. I think that that's a very important subject facing students today. For instance, students need a good surrounding to be capable of learning. Also, they need to have supportive peers that give them good and positive feedback, and what they need to do better etc..

Mr. Fisch wrote about how he asked his 9th grade freshman class the question, "what matters." I think that's a very important question that is often ignored in students. It makes them think harder and be able to come up with a good, logical answer on their own. What he is doing with his students is something that should be valued and appreciated.

When i first read the post of the man ripping off the head of a tame hotel duck, i felt my stomach drop. I thought what kind of a heartless, stupid person would do such a thing. What was he thinking when he did it? If I was a person witnessing that, I would go up to him and punch him in the face. Even if he was drunk, that's not an excuse for ripping the head off a poor, defenseless duck.

I hope they put him in jail and throw away the key. He doesn't deserve to be free after what he did. What kind of hotel is that, if they just let drunk people corner a duck and rip its head off while the duck is still alive? What sickens me the most is that the man, after ripping off its head, he said he was hungry and was going to go eat it! Hopefully, another act like this won't occur, and if it does, the authorities give more punishment.

Denver post-local news # 1

The Denver Post reports of things happening all over Colorado. It brings you the information almost as soon as it happens, and all the little details. One of the articles that caught my eye was the one involving the police Sergeant being arrested. Apparently he is being investigated with assault, by hitting his wife in face with his gun. This is just one of the many articles that are all very interesting that the Denver post brings to the public.

Another one of the articles that I found interesting was that the Gates foundation gave $4 million dollars to CSU to scientists to develop new treatments to tuberculosis, that is a very dangerous disease involving the lungs. This is important because it raises awareness, and inspires more people the give to donations alike. The Gates family is very generous, and donates to many organizations worldwide. Obviously, the Denver post is a very good way of getting information, from a very good source.

Fischbowl-education blog # 1

On Fischbowl I watched the "did you know" presentation about what is going on today in the world. I found a lot of stuff interesting from what Mr. Fisch had put together. He brought up many crucial facts that are being addressed in society today. For instance, when he said they were going to ship out 50-100 million laptops to children in Africa, and other places; It made me think that there are people who care about the people in countries that the majority of their population is poor.

During the presentation many of the things he said, I didn't even know was going on. When he said that 25% of China's population with the highest IQ's, is larger than the total population of United States, I was shocked. I didn't know that China's population was increasing so dramatically. Obviously, Mr. Fisch brought up points that need to be more addressed, and some that are just really interesting to learn about.
